Description
This low-ER alcohol wine is the result of a series of experimental micro-vinifications undertaken by Mauricio Lorca at our request, seeking to provide us with a delicious lower ABV red that does not cut any corners when it comes delivering aroma, texture and length in the wine – things that we are not prepared to compromise on. This is a ‘proper’ wine: there is no de-alcoholisation, no acidification, no added sugar, and no added anything else for that matter! The fruit is picked early just after veraison, with a focus on phenolic ripeness and the vines are old, giving us amazing fruit concentration even when picked early. The vineyard is El Mirador in Rivadavia, East Mendoza at 700 MASL, a warm area where grapes typically ripen early and that also helps with this project.
The wine is a blend of Ancellotta and Malbec and the must spends a full 7 days in cold soak pre-fermentation before the skins are removed. At 9.5% we have enough alcohol to make an excellent light red with lovely red fruit aromatics, delicious wild strawberry character and a proper finish. We will leave other companies to provide low alcohol ‘wines’ and we will leave it to you – as always – to decide how good this is. We are delighted to say the reaction since we introduced Lorca Lo to the UK has been overwhelmingly positive.
